Retail Market Associate

Are you a self-proclaimed hospitality nerd? Do you love opportunities to build connection with your customers, greet regulars by name, and share your impressive knowledge about pasta specifically, and la dolce vita more generally? Do you know what guanciale is? Then join our team at our retail pasta shop in NW Pasadena.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Sharing enthusiasm for Semolina’s housemade fresh and dried pastas
  • Talking with customers about Italian cooking
  • Assemble simply delicious sandwiches
  • Slice salumi and cheeses for customers and sandwiches
  • Own non-pasta inventory, and be tapped into new products and producers
  • Maintain clean and sanitary work areas for sandwich prep
  • Maintain FIFO in for perishable products in the retail fridge
  • Create and maintain inventory systems for online and POS sales
  • Fulfill online orders
  • Manage shop social media (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook)
  • Warm service for phone, online and POS customers
  • Cleaning retail shop, including but not limited to washing windows, dishes and floors
  • Helping with other tasks as needed

Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum 1-2 years working FOH or BOH in a restaurant, deli or gourmet market
  • Knowledge of pasta and pasta cookery
  • Know how to work and clean a meat slicer
  • Knowledge of Italian food culture, cooking and specialty ingredients
  • Exceptional sense of hospitality, generosity and warmth
  • Ability to lift overhead, move up to 50# at a time, climb ladders, bend, stoop and kneel freely.
  • Ability to be on feet 8 hours a day
  • Serv Safe certified
  • Systems oriented
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Familiarity with POS systems, Shopify preferred

Pasta Packer

Pasta packers are responsible for quality testing and packaging pasta so that it can be sold at our retail shop and shipped out to retailers and restaurants. Part time and full time positions available.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate filling and packing machinery including weigh filler, gluing machine, batch coder and pallet jacks.
  • Ensure packed pasta and master shippers are accurately batch coded and counted.
  • Conduct process quality control checks, and complete required documentation accurately and neatly in packing and QC logs.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with supervisor when there are problems with product, packaging and/or machinery or inventory is running low.
  • Communicate directly with operations coordinator to ensure materials for job are available.
  • Ensure all SOPs, GMPs , safety and sanitation practices are followed at all times.
  • Clean packing and production equipment, work area and other areas of facility in order to maintain quality and sanitation standards. These tasks include but are not limited to: washing dishes, cleaning and sanitizing equipment and work surfaces, sweeping and mopping floors and pasta dryers, cleaning bathrooms, cleaning and sanitizing pasta drying racks.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Ability to lift overhead, move up to 50# at a time, climb ladders, bend, stoop and kneel freely.
  • Ability to be on feet for extended periods of time, up to 8 hours a day, in a hot and humid environment.
  • Ability to work with a flexible schedule, including some weekends.
  • Food Handlers Certificate
  • Work with speed and accuracy.
  • Has strong communication, math and organizational skills.
  • Must be vaccinated against Covid-19
  • Minimum one year in food production environment preferred

Pasta Maker

If feeding people is a core value, and you enjoy hard work and watching the mesmerizing whirl of a pasta extruder, then come join our team of pasta makers. You’ll make fresh and dried pasta for gourmet markets like Whole Foods and Bristol Farms, restaurants like Hippo and Pizzeria Bianco and direct customers alike. Willing to train the right person, but require a minimum of a one-year commitment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Make fresh and dried pasta for wholesale customers and our retail shop.
  • Pack fresh pasta for wholesale and retail.
  • Assist in packing dried pasta.
  • Maintain production logs to ensure raw material and finished good traceability according to SSOPs and GMPs and HACCP.
  • Maintain daily pre-operational, operational and end of day logs.
  • Support pasta lead in preparing for third party audits.
  • Ensure FIFO is practiced for all finished good and raw materials. 
  • Communicate daily with the pasta lead on any equipment issues or items that will affect the quality of the items produced.
  • Clean and maintain the kitchen, including routine maintenance and ongoing projects. These tasks include but are not limited to: washing dishes, cleaning and sanitizing equipment and work surfaces, sweeping and mopping floors and pasta dryers, cleaning bathrooms, cleaning and sanitizing pasta drying racks according to Semolina’s SSOPs and HACCP plan
  • Perform routine maintenance on pasta equipment.
  • Demonstrate leadership by displaying job expertise, flexibility, positive attitude, initiative, organization, communication skills and enthusiasm.
  • Understand the values of the brand and strive to fulfill them each and every day.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years working in a commercial food production environment or restaurant kitchen, some pasta production preferred.
  • A creative problem solver that is stays cool under pressure.
  • Able to troubleshoot equipment and production issues.
  • Ability to uphold food safety protocols and follow SSOPs and GMPs.
  • ServSafe Food Handlers License.
  • Ability to be on feet for extended periods of time, up to 8 hours a day, in a hot and humid environment. 
  • Ability to lift 50#, climb ladders, bend, stoop and kneel freely.
  • Ability to work with a flexible schedule, including some weekends.
  • Work with accuracy and efficiency to maintain production deadlines.
  • ServSave Certificate.
